Some artists play the blues. John Primer helped shape it.
A multi-Grammy-nominated artist, Blues Foundation Blues Music Awards nominee, and one of the last living links to the golden age of Chicago blues, John Primer has spent more than five decades carrying forward a tradition forged by the masters themselves. As bandleader, guitarist, and singer for Muddy Waters from 1980 to 1983, Primer learned the blues from one of its greatest architects while developing the slide guitar work and soulful vocal style that would become his own signature sound.
Born in Mississippi and seasoned in the legendary clubs of Chicago, Primer has dedicated his life to preserving and advancing one of America's greatest musical traditions. He has toured the world, shared stages with blues royalty, and earned a reputation as one of the genre's most respected ambassadors. Quite simply, he's the real deal. Chicago blues straight from someone who's lived it, breathed it, and played it alongside the giants who created it.
Joining John will be harmonica master Steve Bell, whose playing adds another layer of authenticity to the experience. Together, they'll create the kind of laid-back, old-time blues gathering that feels less like a concert and more like sitting on a back porch listening to masters swap songs and stories.
But don't mistake the relaxed atmosphere for anything less than extraordinary. Whether delivering a slow-burning Delta blues or an electrifying Chicago shuffle, Primer plays with the passion, authenticity, and joy that have made him a true living legend.
We are especially honored to welcome John back to Lo's Backyard. His previous appearance remains one of the most memorable events in our concert series, and having an artist of his stature return is both a privilege and a testament to the special connection between performer and audience that makes these gatherings so unique.
This won't just be a show, it will be an authentic afternoon of blues as it was meant to be heard: up close, personal, and played by musicians who have lived the music.
Join us for an unforgettable afternoon with a true blues legend.
The $40 donation supports John Primer and Steve Bell and helps cover the cost of producing this unique backyard experience.
